Adrian is roughly midway between Jackson and Toledo, OH.  I do not ship rats, but I'm usually willing to drive to meet or deliver up to several hours away for a gas fee.  I do travel frequently around S MI, NW OH and sometimes other areas, so I may be heading in your direction anyway.

ABOUT DRAGONFLY RATTERY:

I've had rats about eleven years now.  My first was a champagne hooded named Robbie, who made a permanant impression on me by being more like a dog than a hamster.  It wasn't long after that I had my first litter, semi-accidentally.  For the next several years I bred the occasional litter, strictly limited to the number of friends I could pawn babies off on!   My goals in breeding weren't especially lofty and my breeding animals weren't particularly worth breeding, as much as I liked to think otherwise.  Finally I decided to stop breeding until I had the time and resources to do it "right."

Starting in the Summer of this year, I began looking for breeding stock for my "new" rattery.  I've gotten some wonderful rats from a few quality breeders.  I never want to be a large rattery, just want to raise a few quality rats and work towards my goals in breeding.  Temperament and health are my first priorities, and I don't intend to make any compromises as far as those two traits go.  Secondarily, I hope to produce some show quality rats, as well as some of my favorite colors and varieties.  Currently, I'm planning on working with minks, blues, Russian blues, and their variations and dilutes, such as platinums, silvers, blue agoutis, pearls, etc., in standard, dumbo, and various markings.  Eventually I'd like to add chocolates as well.

Finally, I want to say that all of my rats are pets first and foremost.  They're a part of my family.  It's important to me that they're treated right and live long, happy lives.  I breed them knowing that I'll be responsible for the lives that result.  I do not sell rats as feeders, and I do not kill unwanted animals, because that would be a breach of my repsonsibility to them.  To the best of my ability, I place them only in loving lifetime homes.

DRAGON RESCUE:

Dragon Rescue is my name for my willingness to take in unwanted animals :-)  There are very few animals I'd turn down, but in particular I believe that if I have the resources to breed a type of animal, I should leave resources open to rescue those animals as well.  Rats are definitely included!  If you have a rat in need of a home, contact me and maybe I can help.  In some cases I may be willing to travel to pick up an unwanted animal.  If I can't take yours in, perhaps I could at least give you some tips on where to find a home for it.  Animals are kept here for at least 3 weeks for quarantine as well as so I can get to know them, and are adopted out on adoption contracts only to screened homes.  If I'm unable or unwilling to adopt an animal out, then they will stay with me for their lifetimes.
